TR7’s Indigenous Employment and Training (IET) services are based on an integrated model and vision for Sustainable Employment for Aboriginal People, in the local community where possible. Our approach is to first identify specific jobs with clients, then recruit Aboriginal people suitable for those positions, and finally train and mentor individuals to be competently skilled and qualified to carry out that work.
TR7’s approach to Indigenous Employment and Training is identifying real jobs with real employers. This means that before we start any program we partner ourselves with a client who shares the same vision for sustainable employment for Aboriginal people and commit to a practical and measurable outcome that we can achieve together.
Our IET Team and Human Resources Division work closely with our clients to analyse and evaluate their jobs so a full description of the work and worker requirements are identified.
Clients also receive cultural awareness training for all management and staff to help create an inclusive work environment that is welcoming to the introduction of Aboriginal employees in their workplace. This is an important part of the model because it can help break down previous misconceptions of Aboriginal people and deal with any cultural diversity issues that may cause barriers in the future.
We have a dedicated network of Indigenous Leaders, Recruitment Consultants and Trainers/Assessors that work with local communities all over Australia recruiting Aboriginal people for our client’s positions.
Our success is made possible only by the support and involvement of each local community and our strong relationships with their local Indigenous Leaders, schools and community services.
This is credited to two reasons:
- Our focus is not only providing job opportunities to individuals but meaningful opportunities for the whole community
- The spirit and kindness of the local Aboriginal people has inspired us more then we ever thought possible
Our Recruitment Consultants source candidates by combining our recruitment methodologies with our Indigenous Training and Employment model and vision.
TR7’s training services include nationally recognised training as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), NOHSC nationally recognised training as an employer of qualified Trainers/Assessors, and enterprise training through the development of our internal training and assessment programs. It is these quality and competency-based training services that make our approach to Indigenous Employment and Training so successful. Once the client’s jobs are identified and evaluated, either our current training programs are customised, or our Training and Development Division design, develop and accredit new training programs to meet specific work and industry requirements. This means that our Aboriginal trainees are offered a real opportunity for long-term sustainable employment and provided with the necessary training to accomplish that goal.

The ongoing mentoring and support for the individual, industry and community is the foundation of our Indigenous Employment and Training Model and one of the main reasons our programs have such positive outcomes and high retention rates.
Australian Indigenous employees have added pressures outside of work that can prevent them from achieving their new goals in training and employment. Outside pressures can be personal, social and cultural and can all contribute towards the performance issues that, if not managed correctly, result in the Aboriginal employee failing to complete their training program and/or retaining their employment.
The TR7 Mentoring Program is part of the strategic plan developed with each client at the commencement of each program. It is tailored to meet the specific needs of the workplace, and the Aboriginal employees. It also incorporates our mentoring and education initiatives that we apply to industry and community because the individual’s success is dependent on their support.
The program mentors, coaches and supports the individual from the time they are recruited for the position until the time we have achieved the retention outcome outlined in the strategic plan. All our mentors have a long history working with the community and industry improving Australian Indigenous people’s right and opportunities. |
